The 818 Club organises events and activities at weekends and during the school holidays for young people aged between 8 and 18 with and without special needs.

There is something for everyone, whether you have no experience at all, a little or even a lot.   The aim is to have fun, to try something new, to improve on the skills you already have and to find out more about yourself, your friends and the great outdoors.

The club provides:

  • transport from central pick up points in Brighton & Hove

  • one to one assistance and supervision for those with special needs

  • subsidised places for families on low incomes - thanks to grants from the Worshipful Company of Grocers, Help a Local Child and The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation

We send a newsletter to members every two months.  Members simply book and pay for whichever events they chose.  Membership costs £6 per family per year.

New Members - targeting disadvantaged groups

The 818 Club is very nearly at full capacity.  It receives a third of its funding from BBC Children in Need.  The Children in Need funding has been provided to enable disadvantaged children to benefit from the club.  For these reasons we are currently only able to accept new members from the following groups:

  • families on low incomes (receiving state benefits or working tax credit)
  • children with special needs
  • children in local authority residential or foster care
  • young carers (children looking after a family member with a disability or a long-term illness)
  • single parent families – ie where there is no other person to share the child care

If you are in one of these categories and you would like to join the club please complete the joining form.

If you’d like to join the club and you don’t fit into one of these categories but you feel your child is disadvantaged in some other way please email us.

We will reopen the club to new members who don't fit into any of these categories when capacity allows.  If you would like to be added to the waiting list in the meantime, please email us.
